Record-breaking audiences relish Premier League competition
Published Tue 06 Dec 2022
The Premier League has reached more eyeballs than ever before in 2022, with record numbers in viewership and huge growth across minutes watched for WA’s elite-level men’s and women’s competitions.
In 2022, the Premier League was broadcast live and on demand across Australia and around the world on NITV, SBS On Demand, Live Hockey, Facebook, YouTube and Star Sports China in never-before-seen depth and detail.
In years previous, the Premier League was broadcast to solely Hockey WA’s YouTube and Facebook channels. This year’s expansion resulted in 150,000 total cumulative viewers – a 161% increase on the year prior.
Total minutes watched totalled more than 555,000, excluding NITV’s broadcasts, providing another staggering increase of 112%.
Both statistics, amazingly, also exclude the new international syndication – with Star Sports China’s broadcast to mainland China’s hotels and foreign compounds reaching a combined 225,000 paid rooms and 25,000,000 potential viewers in China on an annual basis.
“We’re incredibly proud of the huge growth of Premier League viewership and engagement across 2022 via online, Australian free-to-air and international subscription TV services,” Hockey WA’s General Manager – Commercial Operations, Marketing and Media, Nicholas Janzen, says.
“We believe our elite-level open-age men’s and women’s club competitions are some of the best in the world and are deserving of international recognition and these figures show the audiences are appreciating our products.
“Thanks to our broadcast/production partners at Local Media Services Company, NITV/SBS, LiveHockey.com.au and Star Sports China, as well to everyone who has supported and watched in 2022 – we look forward to growing this offering even further next season and capturing hearts, minds and attention not just across Australia but around the world too.”
