Regional Round-up I 1 April 2022

GOLDFIELDS-ESPERANCE 

Eastern Goldfields – Kalgoorlie

The senior hockey season is underway in the Goldfields, with round two set to spark up this weekend.

Friday night CBC and Mines will match in the A1 and A2 men for the second consecutive week, after a match later this season.

Then a day later the A2 women’s clashes will see Veterans clash with Pegasus, and YMHC and Norths.

Mines and Pegasus will then play each other in the A1 Women’s division, the A1 men, and the A2 men.

To round off the weekend of action Sunday, Mines and CBC will play in the A2 women, followed by a YMHC and CBC triple header with the A1 women followed by the A1 men and A2 men.

GREAT SOUTHERN

Lower Great Southern – Albany and Surrounds

The local Thursday Social Summer Sevens competition has been cancelled for rest of the term.

An increase of COVID health measures in the town has seen many teams unable to field side in recent weeks, prompting the association to call the season off early.

Upper Great Southern – Narrogin and Surrounds

Narrogin and surrounding top-grade hockey players are being given the exciting opportunity to increase their hockey exposure in the region.

The 2022 women’s super league will see players from surrounding associations nominate to take part in the 6-week Friday night competition.

Teams will be selected by the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association executive committee, for the tournament which runs from April 29 until June 10.

Matches will take place at the Bevan George Hockey Turf in Narrogin.

MID WEST

Geraldton 

The Geraldton Hockey Association AGM will take place late in April, and will decide the new fillers of five director positions on the board.

Nominations for the roles will close April 12, before the meeting takes place April 26 at 6pm.

Geraldton products Brayden King, Josh Bowen and Caitlin Mundy have all also been selected into sides for the Ric Charlesworth Classic which is underway.

PEEL

Peel Hockey is on the hunt for a part-time Development Officer!

The role seeks to work with the board, collaboratively with Hockey WA to increase hockey participation numbers in the Peel region.

There’s also potential to create new development opportunities for locals.

SOUTH WEST

Bunbury

Young gun Tom Harvie has made a statement to return to hockey in 2022.

 

The Boyanup product has been named in the 2022 men’s national development squad, putting him directly in line for Kookaburras call-up as the second tier of athletes.

Busselton

The senior season in Busselton is underway, with round one action taking place last weekend.

 

This weekend in the A2 women’s competition Countrys and Wests will clash Friday night, and Capel will meet Robins late Saturday afternoon.

In the A2 men, it’s MRHC and the Jets Cavaliers, before a Countrys versus Capel showdown on Saturday night.
