CBH Group Women's Country Hockey Championships - June 18, 19, 20

The 2021 CBH Group Women’s Country Championships was able to return to its mid-June timeslot this year after COVID forced a later tournament date last year.

Three days of exciting country hockey was split between Perth Hockey Stadium and Fletcher Park from Friday, June 18 until Sunday, June 20 and saw people travel from far and wide to compete against other regions.

In an event first, The West Australian also livestreamed every match played on PHS-1 over the three days, with the final day featuring commentary.

Congratulations to all who participated, in particular the winners of each division and individual award winners.

 

Grand Final Winners:

Division One – Lower Great Southern

Division Two – Bunbury

Division Three – Collie

Division Four – Upper Great Southern

Divison Five – Central Midlands Coastal

Masters Division One – Upper Great Southern

GOLDFIELDS-ESPERANCE

Kalgoorlie

A bye for the entire women’s competition due to the CBH Group Women’s Country Championships at the weekend provided an opportunity for the boys of the bush to shine.

 

In the A1 men’s competition, Norths was able to emerge the stronger side over Pegasus in a 3-1 win, while CBC was defeat in a narrow 2-1 win for Mines.

 

The second-tier competition in the A2 men saw a stalemate reached at the completion of both matches, with a 2-2 draw being played out between Pegasus and Norths, and a 1-1 draw between CBC and Mines.  

 

GREAT SOUTHERN

Central Great Southern

Tambellup product Penny Squibb was one of four Western Australians named in the Australian Olympic Hockey team due to travel to Tokyo later this year.

 

Penny made her debut in 2018 against Argentina and after missing squad selection in 2020, has come back harder and stronger, and will be making her Olympic debut in a month.  

 

SOUTH WEST

Margaret River

Also donning the green and gold for Australia at the Tokyo Olympics this year is Margaret River-born Aran Zalewski.

 

Zalewski is co-captain and has been a senior squad member since his debut in 2011, and will attend his second Olympic Games.
