Regions set to rock Perth in long-standing festival of hockey
Published Thu 22 Jun 2023
The CBH Group Men’s Country Championships returns – bigger and better – in 2023, with the regional festival of hockey set to showcase teams from across WA at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University and Bateau Turf Lakelands from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 June.
This year, the annual hockey event will see four divisions, comprising of 30 teams, highlighting the best of regional hockey.
Teams will travel from as far as Geraldton and Miling in the north, and Esperance and Bunbury in the south, to culminate in Perth for the three-day competition.
The annual event provides WA’s regional hockey towns an opportunity to compete at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University’s Olympic-standard turf, with teams fighting for bragging rights in one of the longest-standing events in WA hockey.
Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross is keen to see the competition hit Perth for the second week in a row after a successful women's event last week.
“Last week’s CBH Group Women’s Country Championships was a phenomenal event full of fantastic hockey and comradery on display,” Ross said.
“I, along with the rest of the wider hockey community, cannot wait for this week’s men’s competition – I'm sure it will be another sensational display of regional hockey’s best.
“Thank you once again to CBH Group for their continued support of this long-standing competition and the sport of hockey in regional Western Australia.”
CBH Group Chief Stakeholder Relations, Sustainability and Strategy Officer Brianna Peake said the co-operative takes pride in its commitment to supporting regional hockey through the CBH Group Country Championships.
“CBH are proud to continue supporting opportunities for regional hockey players to unite and showcase their association,” Ms Peake said.
"CBH firmly believes in the power of regional sport and its ability to bring communities together, promote active lifestyles, and advance local talent.
“After the top-notch display from the women last weekend, we are anticipating more outstanding hockey from the men this weekend– best of luck to all teams who take the field.”
Last year, Bunbury was crowned the champions of regional hockey in Western Australia after taking home the Division One title in a 2-0 Grand Final win over Lower Great Southern.
The 2023 CBH Group Country Championships action from PHS-1 will be streamed, live and free, on Streamer.
