Gold medals + Thundersticks positions on the line in a Classic final day

Published Sat 13 Mar 2021

Four teams competing in the 2021 Ric Charlesworth Classic are now just one game from glory – and a gold medal.

The competition, pitching WA’s best emerging hockey talent against each other across both men’s and women’s leagues in the competition for positions on the Perth Thundersticks roster, is nearing a stunning finale, with four games to be played on Sunday 14 March.

In the men’s competition, the Suns and Outbacks will battle for gold, following the Suns claiming a 2-0 win over the Highlanders after a strong performance, locking in the 2020 Grand Final rematch before the final game of the round.

The Outbacks cruised to a 2-1 victory over the Breakers and looked to be a strong outfit and likely to put up an extremely tough contest against the 2020 champions in the Suns.

The teams are evenly matched, reflected by their 2-all draw earlier in the competition.

The women’s gold medal match sees the Breakers and Outbacks clash, after the Highlanders loss to the then winless Suns locking in the 2021 Grand Final match-up before the two sides were to meet in the following match.

The Outbacks and Breakers faced off in an extremely close contest, with a 2-2 draw unable to differentiate the sides with the Grand Final shaping up to be a competitive one.
