Men's
Hale rejoiced the return of star striker Liam Flynn as they opened their 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League campaign in style with a 4-0 win over Westside Wolves.
Hale and the Wolves faced off at Lemnos Field during the opening round of the 2025 season on Saturday.
Following a hot start with plenty of back and forth and several close shots on goal, neither side could break through to open up the scoreline in the first quarter.
The early stalemate continued into the second quarter until Sam McCulloch slotted in a field goal at the 29th minute to give Hale the 1-0 advantage by half time.
Hale continued to pick up the pace and intensity during the third quarter, with captain Flynn stepping up to score a hattrick of penalty corner goals to lead 4-0 at three-quarter time.
Although the Wolves tried to salvage their game, wide shots saw several scoring opportunities go begging, with Hale holding strong to win.
Perth Hockey Stadium set the scene for a thriller that saw Victoria Park and Fremantle Cockburn meet each other's match on Friday night.
While the Magpies held the 2-1 lead in the first half and looked to dominate early in the third quarter, Victoria Park stormed through to take a narrow lead, until a 58th minute goal via Jack Welch drew the game at 5-5.
At Troy Pickard Hockey Centre, reigning premiers UWA put up a dominant second-half performance to defeat North Coast Raiders 6-1.
WASPS put the competition on notice at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday with an 8-2 victory over Mods-OGM, while YMCC pulled off an early upset on Sunday at Lemnos Field with a 5-1 win over Melville, and 2024 Top Goalscorer Brodee Foster got his tally going with a hat-trick in Reds' 4-0 win over Whitford at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre.
Women's
A first-quarter hattrick via Madi Ratcliffe has helped reigning premiers Westside Wolves put the competition on notice, starting their 2025 season with a 6-1 win over Hale.
Wolves took on Hale at Lemnos Field during the opening Gala Round of the 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League season on Saturday.
While both sides looked to dominate early, it would take just four minutes for the floodgates to open for the Wolves with Elly Buckley scoring the opening goal.
Soon after, Ratcliffe would enter the fray, leaving Hale defenders stunned by scoring a hattrick within four minutes.
Looking to salvage their efforts, Hale would manage a late score via Tayla Britton to bring the scores to 4-1 at quarter time.
The second quarter saw the contest enter a stalemate, with both sides mounting the pressure on one another, until play had to stop due to Tyler Pedley getting caught in the crossfire during a penalty corner attempt.
Once play resumed, Hale continued making penalty corner attempts, only for their shots to go wide, leaving the score at 4-1 by half time.
The third quarter saw much of the same as both sides continued their back and forth, until Jessica Freedman broke through for a field goal to extend the Wolves' lead to 5-1 by three-quarter time.
The contest picked up intensity during the final quarter as Hale looked to stage a comeback.
Despite having plenty of possession in attack, Hale were unable to capitalise.
Wolves put the exclamation point on a solid effort with Hockeyroo Greta Hayes scoring a field goal to walk away with the win 6-1.
A dominant first-half effort, including a Courtney Schonell hattrick, saw UWA defeat the North Coast Raiders 5-0 at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre on Friday night.
