Silver lining for WA Country men

Published Sat 13 Aug 2022

Congratulations to Hockey WA's State men's Country side who have finished second in the 2022 Hockey Australia Country Challenge staged in Albany.

The WA men were met by stiff opposition in the final, with Queensland ultimately finishing 5-nil victors to claim the gold.

WA’s men, though, finished with a well-deserved silver medal and some wonderful memories from striking performances throughout the event.

Coach Lawrie Tylor was glowing about his team's efforts across the competition.

"How the guys went about the entire tournament was great," Tylor said.

"The buy-in by all the players to go to the next level and bring a professional approach has been outstanding.

"[The Country Challenge] is a program that’s really elevated. The squads and people selected and the professionalism has really improved over the years, and we’ve got a great team that deserved to represent WA.

"The atmosphere in Albany has been great, with some wonderful local support – the whole atmosphere has been great from the start.

"Other states’ comments have also been glowing about the event and the atmosphere in Albany. It’s been a wonderful tournament.

"Queensland made a great comment – it took them three silvers before getting a gold and that’s now our focus to replicate their success."

On behalf of Hockey WA, congratulations to our men's Country team on a wonderful 2022 Hockey Australia Country Challenge.
