Men’s

An intense contest between two teams looking to put themselves in finals contention has resulted in both sides meeting their match.

As the Stiles Electrical Premier League returned to action this weekend, Reds hosted Fremantle Cockburn at Aquinas College on Sunday 21 July.

It did not take long for Reds to score with Zach Rakkas charging through to score a field goal for the home side.

Not willing to give up easily, Fremantle Cockburn fired back late in the term with a field goal via Tim Deavin to bring the scores level.

The contest reached a stalemate during the second and third quarters, with both sides mounting the pressure on each other amid an ensuing struggle to get in front.

It wasn’t until the final quarter that the match picked up intensity with Rakkas scoring his second goal of the match in the 47th minute.

Just as it looked like the Reds would come away with the win, Fremantle Cockburn dug deep with Ehren Hazell scoring in the 58th minute, forcing a 2-2 draw.

Elsewhere, UWA defeated North Coast Raiders 5-1, Westside Wolves pulled off a dominant 8-0 victory over Mods-OGM, Victoria Park defeated WASPS 3-1, Hale beat YMCC 2-0, and Melville held off Whitford 3-1.

Earlier in the week, Westside Wolves edged out WASPS 4-3, Victoria Park dominated North Coast Raiders 6-1, Fremantle Cockburn pipped Whitford 2-1, and Melville defeated Reds 5-2.

Suburban Lions have continued their quest to firm up their finals credentials, securing their sixth win of the season by defeated Reds 4-2 on Sunday.

In the return of Stiles Electrical Premier League action, Reds hosted the reigning premiers at Aquinas College on Sunday 21 July.

After some initial to and fro, Lions import Alejandra Palacio would draw the first blood with a field goal to get the visitors in front.

However, Reds import Asta Fisher would quickly respond with a field goal of her own to bring the scores level.

The contest seemed to reach a stalemate until the late stages of the opening term with Agueda Moroni scoring to give the Lions the 2-1 advantage at the first break.

The second quarter saw plenty of back and forth between both sides, with neither team letting up until Moroni would score her second in the 28th minute.

By half time, the Lions had doubled their margin to give themselves some wiggle room.

The Lions continued to charge towards securing a win with Georgina Dowd scoring a field goal early in the third quarter, leaving Reds with a lot of work to do to catch up.

Despite Madison Fitzpatrick scoring off a penalty corner just minutes after the fourth quarter began, Reds’ efforts proved futile as the Lions held strong to come away with the win.

Elsewhere, UWA dominated North Coast Raiders 5-0, WASPS held off Victoria Park 2-1, Whitford pulled off a massive upset with a 5-3 victory over Hale, and Westside Wolves defeated Melville 4-2.
