Australian teams announced for inaugural International Indoor tour of Malaysia
Published Mon 23 Oct 2023
A collective of Australian indoor hockey players have the special opportunity to travel to Malaysia and showcase the best the country has to offer in newly developed invitational tournaments.
As part of the 2023 Asian Engagement program, Hockey WA will be sending teams to compete in the Sultan Nazrin Shah Cup and the Tuanku Zara Cup as part of the inaugural Open Mens & Womens Indoor International Invitational tour to Ipoh, Malaysia.
Taking place from Sunday 4 November to Sunday 12 November, the two Australian teams will compete against invited players representing Malaysia, Swtizerland, New Zealand, Namibia, South Africa and Hong Kong.
Hockey WA head of Asian Engagement Chris Ciriello said Hockey WA is "excited to be able to provide an excellent opportunity to take players from all over the country to play in an outstanding competition developed by the Sultan of Ipoh and the Malaysian Hockey Confederation".
"These opportunities don't come around very often and with short notice and a lot of difficulty we are pleased with the quality of both players and coaches," he said.
"I appreciate all the support from coaches across Australia who have helped to ensure this tour gets off the ground.
"We wish all the players and the off-field team the very best for the tour and enjoy the life experience."
