Raiders claim thrilling victory to kick-start All Flags Premier League action

Published Sun 25 Jul 2021

A scintillating match-up between the North Coast Raiders and Curtin University women’s sides delivered a thrilling contest at Warwick Hockey Centre to kick-start this weekend’s All Flags Premier League action.

The Raiders came out firing early in the contest, with scoring four unanswered goals within 37 minutes of play; Jordyn Holzberger leading the side with two goals to her name.

In a late play to snatch the victory from the Raiders, Curtin’s Chantelle Ciallella scored with a quick reply in the next minute, bringing life to the side who then scored the next two goals to take the score to 4-3 in the Raiders favour.

In the end, the arm-wrestle continued until the final buzzer, with the Raiders running away with the 4-3 victory.

Old Guildfordians Mundaring secured their third win of the season over a winless Curtin, defeating the side 4-0 in a strong outing for the club.

Young star Hunter Banyard starred for the side, scoring two goals in a promising performance for the side.

The Westside Wolves women’s side has continued their hot run heading into the back end of the season, defeating Suburban Lions 3-0 in a strong outing.

The Lions were hopeful for a win coming off the back of their 3-2 victory over the equal ladder-leaders in Hale, but the Wolves proved to be too strong and now sit at second on the All Flags Premier League women’s standings.

The men’s Wolves side also claimed the three points against Fremantle Cockburn Lemnos Field with Jake Harvie putting on a show with two goals to lead his side to victory.

YMCC continue their search for their first win in the women’s competition, losing to the top side in Victoria Park 2-0.

The men’s Victoria Park side continue their hot run against Reds, winning 4-3 through two late goals to Jason Gabriel in the dying minutes of the match.

Gabriel’s hat-trick across the match led Vic Park to the victory, with the side now over-taking Reds on the ladder to claim the second position.

UWA claimed a 3-0 victory over WASPs in the women’s competition, with Courtney Schonell’s two goals leading the side to a strong win at UWA Superturf.

UWA’s men’s side continued the celebrations for the club, with their 3-2 win over the WASPs men’s side strengthening their position at fourth on the ladder.

Whitford Hockey Club looked to shock YMCC in the men’s competition, scoring the first goal early in the match through Nathan Ephraums.

YMCC pulled back two of their own goals in quick succession, but Whitford again found the back of the net with eight minutes to go to see the sides reach a 2-2 deadlock.

Either team needed a hero to snatch the victory, with YMCC earning a penalty corner in the last play of the match, they needed the final play to pull off a last-minute win.

Jacob Anderson provided the ultimate victory with his stroke off of the penalty corner, providing YMCC a win for the ages to see their finals berth in sight.

Hla strengthened their position on the ladder in the women’s competition, securing a 3-1 win over Melville at Pulse Stadium.

Fiona Cock was the hero on the day, scoring two goals and starring for the side who is pushing as on of the Grand Final berth favourites heading into the final rounds of the season.

In the men’s Hale defeated Melville in the upset of the round, claiming a 5-3 victory in a strong outing for the club.

Melville continue to be the dominant side in the men’s competition, but Hale’s Liam Flynn scored a hat-trick within 10 minutes of play to defeat the side and give Hale the confidence boost they needed, with some poor results as of recent.
