Thundersticks to clash with Stingers at Lakelands

Published Tue 05 Jul 2022

The Perth Thundersticks men’s side will get a taste of elite-level hockey action in preparation for the upcoming Sultana Bran Hockey One season, with WA’s best set to compete against the NT Stingers this July.

The one-off match, which will hit the Bateau Turf  Lakelands on 28 July, will give the Thundersticks an opportunity to compete in high-level competition play ahead of the season, with the Stingers building towards a return to the national stage since last competing in the now defunct AHL in 2018.

The match is scheduled at the back of the Hockey Australia Under-21s National Championships in Perth and will mark the beginning of the Thundersticks’ season preparation, with the Stingers squad to host NT under-21s athletes and identified local players in the Darwin Hockey League.

Hockey WA General Manager of Performance and Development, Dean Evans, says it is an exciting opportunity for the Thundersticks’ preparation ahead of a competitive Hockey One season.

“It is really exciting for our Thundersticks to be able to play against the NT Stingers ahead of this year’s Hockey One season – I am sure our athletes will relish the opportunity to experience elite action in their preparation,” Evans says.

“The Stingers will bring a competitive outfit for our side to go head-to-head with and a big thank you goes to Hockey NT for their support and the opportunity presented to our Thundersticks.

“It is also a great opportunity for our strong WA hockey fanbase to see their stars up close and personal ahead of what is shaping to be an incredible return to Hockey One.”
