Thundersticks to hit the field against next-gen WA stars

Published Mon 26 Jul 2021

The Perth Thundersticks men’s squad will return to the Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University field on Wednesday 28 July when they take on the Under-21s WA Men’s State Side in a practice match, showcasing some of Western Australia’s best up-and-coming-talent.

Perth Thundersticks Head Coach Stephen Davies says it’s a fantastic opportunity for his side to gain valuable high-level competition play heading into this year’s Sultana Bran Hockey One season.

“These are important games as we continue to build our team structure,’ Davies says.

“It gives players within the squad an opportunity to gel together and impress ahead of team selection.”

Under-21 Men’s head Coach Jamie Dwyer says the team will relish the opportunity in lieu of missed opportunities due to COVID-19.

“Even though the Under-21 National Championships have been postponed, it’s a good opportunity for the side to enjoy a quality game and continue to build connections,” Dwyer says.

“it’s also great for the players’ long-term development facing a quality opposition.”

Fans are encouraged to attend and cheer on the next generation of hockey stars in the state and see up close and personal some of the Perth Thundersticks stars before they shine in this year’s Sultana Bran Hockey One season.
