Top-of-the-table clash to headline All Flags Premier League fixtures
Published Wed 23 Jun 2021
Top spot of the Women’s All Flags Premier League ladder hasn’t budged for weeks, but that may change this weekend when ladder leaders Hale take on a second-placed Victoria Park on Friday evening.
The 2020 Grand Final rematch is the first match of the second round of fixtures for the women and will be a great opener to the FIH Pro League fixtures against New Zealand at Perth Hockey Stadium in the following days.
Hale remains undefeated since the two sides matched up in the opening round of the season, the Panthers able to repeat last year’s Grand Final and run away with a sneaky one-goal win.
If Victoria Park win this weekend, the two sides will be on an equal 22-points each, with the top side being decided by goal difference.
A win from Hale will edge the side two wins clear of second spot, one step closer to a third consecutive finals berth.
Also in the women’s All Flags Premier League, third spot will be contended in a battle between University of WA and Westside Wolves.
Third-placed UWA will host fourth-placed Wolves in a top-tier showdown, just one point separating the two sides.
The victory is crucial for Wolves as UWA still has a game in hand, yet to play the remainder of its match against YMCC, which was rained out after 22 minutes in round five.
The men’s All Flags Premier League will see the same two sides compete, UWA looking to snatch a win after a tight 4-4 draw against Reds last weekend.
Round 13 will commence with a Friday night showdown between Victoria Park and Hale, both sides coming off big wins last weekend.
A whopping seven games will be played Saturday, beginning with a double header for Curtin University, the women’s side taking on Lions and the men hosting Fremantle Cockburn.
Powerhouse Melville will look to retain its spot atop the ladder and take on Whitford, with Reds looking to get the upper hand over Old Guildfordians.
Saturday night will be spent under lights for Melville and North Coast Raiders women, before Perth Hockey Stadium will host a WASP and YMCC double-up in the men’s and women’s All Flags Premier League on Sunday.
