It has been a round of upsets in the men’s Premier League, with three sides challenging for finals suffering defeat in an action-packed weekend of fixtures.

2021 title winners in Melville, who sit at the top of the men’s standings, were challenged by Victoria Park, who bettered the top side by claiming a 2-1 victory in one of the best wins this season for the side.

Victoria Park’s first goal of the match fell in the 28th minute, with Kookaburras’ Jake Whetton finding goal to give the side the lead heading into half-time.

Melville responded quickly after the break, with penalty corner specialist James Day scoring but it was Victoria Park’s Ben Taylor who snatched the victory with a goal late in the piece.

WASPs, who sit towards the bottom of the men’s standings in ninth place, defeated a top-end UWA side 8-5 in a scintillating effort across the board.

Kookaburras’ Tim Brand in his second outing for WASPs, scored a hat-trick on his return, with Duncan Pearce also scoring two in a near-perfect outing for the club.

Fremantle Cockburn have rocketed to third place on the men’s standings after defeating Hale 3-2.

Ehren Hazell scored twice for the Magpies, with the side scoring the first three goals of the match to sink Hale and claim the victory. The Magpies have now won four on the trot and face a tough challenge in Wolves next weekend.

Victoria Park continues to fight towards the top end in the women’s competition, securing a close win over Melville in a 1-0 victory – Maddie Fenwick was the lone scorer for the match.

Curtin have won their third match for the season, defeating Whitford 6-4 – star import Lukas Plochy scored a hat-trick in a strong performance for Curtin.

Westside Wolves remain in second place in the men’s competition and now sit on equal points with Melville, with both sides on 23 points, after claiming a 2-1 victory against YMCC.

Wolves will now face off against Fremantle Cockburn next week, who are hot on their heels in third place and one win from equalising on points.
