Vale Jim Downing

Hockey WA is saddened to hear of the passing of one of our valued hockey family members.

Jim Downing has long been a part of the officiating circles in WA, seen by many as pillar of our hockey community.

Jim was added to the Hockey WA Technical panel in 2008, where he began his officiating career under the guidance of locals Graham Napier and Pat Scott.

Since then, he has been a technical official in many local, national and international games here in Perth, standing literally head and shoulders above those around him.

Always a gentleman, he was known for his willingness to step in and help at any time and has been a great mentor and friend to those who knew him.

Overcoming many challenges with technology, he was still officiating up to the recent Under 14s Championships here in Perth.

We send our condolences to Jim's family and friends - he will be deeply missed.
