Hockey WA is saddened to hear of the passing of a cherished member of our hockey community, John Nettleton.

John, a Hockey WA Award of Merit recipient, was a highly skilled goalkeeper who represented University with distinction and played for Western Australia at all levels. His exceptional abilities made him a formidable opponent, as evidenced by his appearances in multiple Grand Finals and the R&I Cup final during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

After his playing career, John continued to contribute to the sport by umpiring in the Classic league run by Hockey WA. His expertise and fair judgment on the field were highly respected by players and officials alike.

John's passion for hockey and his enduring contributions have left a lasting impact on the Western Australian hockey community. His legacy as a top-level goalkeeper, state representative, and respected umpire will be long remembered and celebrated.

His presence on and off the field will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire future generations of hockey players and officials in our state, and his contributions to hockey in Western Australia will forever be cherished.
