Vale Laraine Waldron

Published Mon 15 May 2023

Hockey WA is saddened to hear of the passing of WASPs Life Member Laraine Waldron.

Laraine was a South Perth Women’s Hockey Club and Wesley South Perth Hockey Club stalwart.

Laraine was honoured with SPWHC Life Membership in 1979 and was just the third person to receive the honour after many years of service both on and off the field.

Laraine was a staunch supporter of South Perth Women’s Hockey Club from 1968 onwards, playing for almost three decades both before and after the birth of her children.

She was also a wonderful organiser of fundraising activities, with her Lamington Drives being an institution at the club.

Laraine and her husband Errold were Club Patrons from 1996.

Laraine worked in the Western Australia Women’s Hockey Association for many years in various areas of the association and was heavily involved in assisting the association through multiple international and national championships held in Perth.

When the women's and men’s associations merged to become Hockey WA, Laraine was a crucial cog for many years in the finance and administration areas and assisted in all tournaments at the venue during that time.

Hockey WA extends our deepest sympathy to Laraine’s husband Errold, and three children Matthew, Philip, Ruth and to Laraine’s extended family and friends.

The funeral service for Laraine will be held on Tuesday 16 May at 2pm at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, 114 Onslow Rd, Shenton Park.
