Hockey WA is saddened to hear of the passing of WA hockey legend Laurie Bedford.
A legend of Cricketers Hockey Club in Perth, Laurie started playing at the club in in 1960, firstly at left wing and then at fullback. He was also a talented penalty corner taker.
In his time at Cricketers, Laurie was a major driver in the club winning Grand Finals in 1960, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1971 and 1973.
Player 188 for Western Australia, Laurie debuted in 1966 for the state and competed in four Championships, of which he won three times.
Laurie was the 194th player capped for Australia’s Men’s Hockey Team, one of 13 players to make their international debut on 13 August 1967 in the first match of a 3-test series in New Zealand.
Hockey WA extends its condolences to Laurie’s family at this time.
