WA hockey stars set to shine on Olympic stage

Published Mon 14 Jun 2021

A total of four Western Australians have been selected to represent Australia in hockey at the Tokyo Olympic games – and locals have a wonderful chance to farewell the players with the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras set to face off in Perth in FIH Pro League fixtures in late June.

Congratulations go to:

Trent Mitton - Wesley South Perth Hockey Club

Karri Somerville - Victoria Park Xavier Hockey Club

Penny Squibb - Curtin University Hockey Club

Aran Zalewski - Reds Hockey Club

Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross congratulated the selected players and highlighted the amazing opportunity for WA fans to farewell the athletes in Olympic-standard match-ups against New Zealand.

“It’s fantastic to see Western Australian athletes represented in the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras at the Tokyo Olympics this July,” Ross said.

“We’re really proud of the development of talent here in WA and I wish the athletes and national sides the best of luck.

“Western Australians have been given a wonderful opportunity to farewell our Olympians on home soil in the FIH Pro League in Perth, and I encourage everyone to come along and give our home-grown athletes and all the players the send-off they deserve."

The Hockeyroos and Kookaburras are scheduled to play their last internationals before the Olympics at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University in the FIH Pro League double-header against the Vantage Black Sticks on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 June. Buy FIH Pro League tickets here.
