WA’s elite to take on Inner Mongolia in 6-Game Series
Published Tue 14 Jan 2025
A selection of WA’s finest hockey talents will get a chance to take on international talent in an upcoming series against Inner Mongolia in their own backyard.
Throughout late January and early February, Hockey WA will host the Inner Mongolia Men’s national team at Perth Hockey Stadium, facilitating a six-game series between them and a representative team comprising of Perth Thundersticks and Stiles Electrical Premier League players.
Hockey is a growing and developing sport in China and Inner Mongolia (80% Han Chinese).
Inner Mongolia, particularly the Morin Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner in Hulunbuir City, is recognized as the birthplace of field hockey in China.
The Daur people have a long-standing tradition of playing "beikou," an ancient game similar to field hockey that dates back over 1,000 years.
The region has been instrumental in nurturing hockey talent, consistently contributing players to China's national teams.
Notably, during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, athletes from Morin Dawa comprised a significant portion of the Chinese squad.
Players that are interested are encouraged to express their interest and availability HERE.
The coaching group and a selected team will be announced for each game.
