Whitford's home base to be named Troy Pickard Hockey Centre
Published Fri 14 Apr 2023
Whitford Hockey Club is pleased to announce that their home ground, Warwick Hockey Centre, will be changing its name to the Troy Pickard Hockey Centre.
The City of Joondalup voted to rename the clubrooms the Troy Pickard Hockey Centre in honour of the late Lord Mayor Troy Pickard, who was also one of the club's prominent members.
Troy served for nearly 12 years as Mayor of Joondalup from 2006-2017, and four years on the City of Stirling Council, including as Deputy Mayor.
He also headed up the WA Local Government Association and rose to become president of the Australian LGA.
Troy was a valued member of the Whitties family, and one of the most significant projects which he helped to deliver in his time as mayor was the Warwick Hockey Centre, turning a long-held dream to develop a regional hockey complex into reality.
The Warwick Hockey Centre was opened in 2017 and features a state of the art synthetic hockey pitch, two grass pitches, clubroom facilities, floodlighting and spectator viewing areas.
Troy passed away suddenly early last year but leaves behind a lasting legacy for all Whitties members - past, present and future.
