Winners are grinners at Championships

Published Fri 09 Apr 2021

An exciting three days of hockey at the 2021 Fuel to Go and Play J11/12 Championships at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University has come to an end, with YMCC, Lower Great Southern, Hale and Reds leaving with gold medals.

Some of the state’s best emerging talent featured in the tournament, with 16 men’s and women’s teams across four different divisions playing in a round-robin format before playing off in finals.

YMCC took out the girls' A grade division, with a four-nil grand final win against WASPs in the final, while LGSHA took the B grade honours when they defeated Reds.

A five-nil win for Hale against Vic Park saw them lock in the A grade boys' title, and Reds scored late in their match to EGHA, winning the B grade grand final two goals to one.

Six of the 16 teams were from regional WA, and two of which played in gold medal matches for their representative division.

Fuel to Go & Play is about choosing the right fuels for the best performance. Preparation is best done with healthy meals in the lead up to the champs, packing fresh fruit for snacks and choosing water to hydrate before, during and after your games.
