Wolves look to weather Hale storm

Published Thu 17 Jun 2021

Women's All Flags Premier League powerhouse Hale will be looking for a seventh straight win this weekend against fellow finals aspirant Westside Wolves.

If Wolves win the 2019 Grand Final re-match on Sunday, it will be the first side to beat Hale since Victoria Park in the opening round.

Hale are setting pretty atop the ladder on 19 points, four above third-placed Wolves who will be looking to repeat the dose from its winning decider two years ago.

Georgina Morgan has been a huge reason for Hale’s success, currently leading the Jackie Pereira Leading Goal-Scorer race with nine penalty-corner goals.

In the men's All Flags Premier League, a season-defining thriller is on the cards between top-two hopefuls UWA and Reds, with just one point separating the two teams.

One win separates second-placed UWA and fifth-placed YMCC heading towards the mid-way point of the season, emphasising the importance of every match for finals-contending teams.

Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University will begin the weekend's action on Friday night with a double header between Curtin and YMCC men's and women's sides, before another duplet between Melville and WASPs men's and women's sides on Saturday.

Saturday afternoon in the men's competition, Whitfords will line up against Wolves at Warwick Hockey Centre and Fremantle Cockburn will look to host Victoria Park at Lakelands Hockey and Sporting Facility.

The second-placed Victoria Park women's side travel to Lemnos turf to take on a young Lions outfit, which has only won two of eight matches this season.

On Sunday, Hale and Old Guildfordians will match up in the men's competition and UWA will host North Coast Raiders in the women's, rounding out a big weekend of All Flags Premier League action.
