Women's Suburban Lions 30 years celebration

Published Thu 19 Aug 2021

2021 marks 30 years since the Suburban part of Suburban Lions had its first formal women's team.

1991 saw a group of ladies join the Hockey club that had only fielded male teams since it was formed in 1922.

The Subs ladies were also instrumental in enabling progressive outcomes in hockey by enabling women to wear shorts on the hockey field vs skirts or skorts - 1996 was the break through year to achieve this with the Western Australian Hockey Association.

To mark this occasion a celebration day will be held at Tregonning on the 21 August 2021.  Several women's team are scheduled to play at Tregonning that day.

Suburban Lions welcome as many of their women's teams, their families and club members to come down for the afternoon.

Plan for the celebrations, with Suburban Bourbon Revival theme:

  • Games from 12.30pm at Tregonning
  • Food Trucks have been arranged
  • Bunkers Bay will be conducting wine tasting, featuring their exquisite bubbly!
  • Our President - Pat Mackenzie will make a toast to celebrate, followed by a past President of the Day - Rod Durston or Rox Dawson
  • Early evening fun activities are planned by from Metro 1s

Ladies teams at Tregonning are welcome to don the “flashback uniform” of:

  • Navy throwback shirt, available to purchase at the club on the day for $39 or simply one of your own navy shirts
  • White skirt or shorts - yes you read it right, we wore white skirts back in the day
  • Red socks

We look to seeing as many of you down there as possible to join in festivities!
